Our family fun in the outer banks of North Carolina, continued until June 13, 2021. You can't mention the outer banks without conjuring up images of lighthouses. There are 5 of them, but we only ventured far enough to see 2. (We bought and filled these photo albums with photos of activities we might do and gave them to our children for Christmas 2020. Brand: World By Shotglass/Copyrighted Design by agiftcorp). We first visited Bodie and later climbed Currituck.
Jockey Ridge State Park is the tallest living sand dune on the Atlantic coast, and it seemed promising for some good ole' cardboard box sledding. Although our attempts to slide were quite unsuccessful, we had a good time just playing in the sand and watching others attempt to hang-glide from the ridge.
A stop at Jeannette's Pier, with it's aquarium and undersea exhibits, seemed to be the customary thing to do. We enjoyed the views and watching fishermen pull in their catch.
The outer banks are where the Wright Brothers perfected the art of flying. We stopped by their Memorial to learn more.
The beautiful grounds of the Whalehead Club, near the Currituck Lighthouse, provided a perfect place for us to launch our paddleboards and do a little canoeing.
We really tried to take the adults to see an outdoor production of "The Lost Colony", but there was a lightening storm when we arrived and the play was cancelled. Jill was the champ who stayed back with the kids! Dad and I returned by ourselves on another night, to re-live one of his most vivid childhood memories while vacationing at the Outer Banks. He also recognized one of the beach houses his family used to stay at. And to make our vacation complete, we certainly enjoyed a breakfast of the original Duck Donuts.
To capture the essence of this memorable vacation, we hired a professional to photograph our family on the beach. That evening, just as we began the session, it began to sprinkle. . . and then rain! Our photographer, Ryan, was amazing. He took some fantastic family photos, both before and after the drizzle, and even deeply discounted the price for us. If you are in the area and need a photographer, I recommend you contact them!
