Captivating Calgary

A little extra sunshine warmed our home July 12-17, 2018, when Chelsea, Knox and Holly came for a visit.  It was nice to enjoy a little companionship during those "dog days" of summer.  Swimming and blowing bubbles on the back patio were among our simple pleasures.

A couple of trips to The Woodlands Mall kept the kids entertained, and included making their own stuffed animals at "Build-A-Bear".

Chelsea and kids headed home on Tuesday, and Bob and I packed up for our departure to Canada the following day.  Bob had some business to attend to for a couple of days in Calgary, and he was excited to return to the place he served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1976-78.  I was equally thrilled to be able to explore Calgary.  It was an easy place to navigate on my own and I walked to nearly every quarter of the inner city.  July was the perfect month to visit and escape from the tortuous Houston heat.  I fell in love with Calgary - at least Calgary in July!

Our hotel room provided a perfect view of Calgary Tower and we were lulled to sleep each night by watching the colorful light displays.

Unique statues, gorgeous flowers, and birds were everywhere, and did I mention how perfect the weather was?!

The architecture of buildings (including homes and forts) and bridges was also captivating.

Quaint shops and fancy restaurants offered a spectacular taste of Calgary.  From the juicy steaks of "cowtown" to the tender venison and perfect meat pies (reminiscent of New Zealand), I was truly satisfied by Calgary's offerings!

Bob and I were able to wander the streets of Calgary together and indulge in some of it's unique culture.  After exploring Prince Island Park (with it's hundreds of varieties of squirrels), we concluded our visit with dinner in Calgary Tower followed by a long wait in line for a treat at Village Ice Cream shop.

Goodbye beautiful Calgary!
