Arches National Park

Arches National Park was our destination on Thursday, June 17, 2014.  Observing the fascinating sandstone formations along the way, we began our explorations with a short walk to Sand Dune Arch, where the fine cool sand was enjoyed by all - and even tasted by some!  While leaving the dunes, I captured a few additional photos of the area.

We took a short but steep hike to the Delicate Arch viewpoint.  I don't remember seeing the massive arch from this angle, and I couldn't help but feel extremely disappointed for all the visitors who never see more than this distant backside view of the amazing arch.

With hungry tummies, we drove to Balanced Rock where, with picnic in tow, we took a break for lunch under the shade of the huge structure.

A nice grouping of formations is found at The Windows area, where we headed after lunch.  From the parking lot, it was a short hike to the North and South Windows and Turret Arch.  Across the road we could also see the photogenic Double Arch.

The 3-mile round trip hike to Delicate Arch was the last thing on our agenda for the day.  Unfortunately, the strenuous hike was not to be made by an expectant mother, so Stephanie and her family returned to Moab to relax in the swimming pool. You should have seen the awestruck stares of hikers struggling along the trail as they saw Jill with Linley on her back, Bobby packing Max on his back, and Michael and Thomas taking turns carrying Elli up the steep ascent!

I'll never cease to be amazed at the handiwork of God!
